ACTOR

One of our most loved actors, Kate began her career by training at East 15 Acting School.  As one of the pioneer graduates, Kate began working almost  immediately.  One of her first theatre engagements was at the Royal Court Theatre and her earliest film work was for directors Alan Parker, Ken Loach and Adrian Lyne.

Since then, Kate’s career has spanned several decades on television and film.  She became a household name in the 1970’s as one of four leads in the hit comedy series, “Love Thy Neighbour” – the first UK television programme to give equal billing and status to a diverse cast.   Fans of the film “Quadrophenia” still call her Jimmy’s Mum when they meet her in the street.   In the 1980’s and 90’s, she was one of only two cast members to complete Lynda La Plante’s famous trilogy about women gangsters, “Widows”.

Regular roles during her career include “May to December”, “Family Affairs”, “Time After Time” and “Eastenders”.

Often referred to as the ‘authentic voice of London’, much of Kate’s stage work was at Theatre Royal Stratford East, where she collaborated with Artistic Director, Philip Hedley, performing in many plays and also producing, directing and hosting the famous Variety Nights which ran for more than fifteen years.
